Family Portrait Calendar by Judi Kauffman

Celebrate with your family all year when you create this heirloom calendar. What a perfect way to enjoy a wedding, anniversary or reunion!

By changing the embellishments you can customize the project and change the look. For example: If everyone is wearing shorts and T-shirts, use shells, buttons and bright ribbon instead of lace and flowers. For a holiday party, choose jingle bells, mini-ornaments, and gold ribbon bows.

Materials:

  • Family photo
  • Transfer Magic.com photo transfer paper for color laser copier or ink jet printer
  • Transfer Magic.com canvas calendar
  • Pre-made ribbon flowers and buds, silk flowers, velvet leaves
  • Fabric glue
  • Two 15" strips of 3" wide lace
  • Family name block on colored paper (created on computer, handwritten or made with a stencil)
  • Signatures or first names of family members (created on computer or handwritten) (Sample was completed using Beacon FabriTac glue.)

Instructions:
NOTE -- Remember to MIRROR IMAGE (reverse) your photograph and lettering so they are backward on the transfer! When you transfer everything onto the calendar it will be correct.

  1. Copy photo, family name block and first names/signatures onto Transfer Magic photo transfer paper.
  2. Cut out and arrange photo, family name block and names/signatures as shown or any way you like.
  3. Glue lace at top across top and bottom edges. Glue flowers and velvet leaves at corners of photo and next to family name block (refer to photo). Leave flat while glue dries.

Reminder:
Transfers made on a color copier must be peeled while hot. Transfers made on an ink jet printer may be peeled while hot (matte finish) or cool (smooth, shiny finish).

For both, burnish the back of the transfer with a soft cloth before peeling. Copyright: Many professional photographers copyright their pictures, make sure you have permission to make a photo transfer.
