Good Fortune Calendar by Judi Kauffman

Customize a canvas calendar with your favorite fortunes from the cookies that come with Chinese food, or create your own with ones you write on the computer or typewriter. Personalize messages for your family and friends, for a teacher or coach, office colleagues, reunion, or special event.

Materials:

  • Transfer Magic.com photo transfer paper for color laser copier or ink jet printer
  • TransferMagic.com calendar
  • Cookie fortunes
  • Bright blue paper (or any border color you like)
  • Chopsticks
  • Fabric glue
  • Glue stick
  • Craft knife and ruler
  • Seven Chinese print fabric strips 1" x 8"
  • (Sample was completed using Beacon FabriTac glue.)

Instructions:
NOTE - Remember to MIRROR IMAGE (reverse) your fortunes so they are backward on the transfer! When you transfer them onto the calendar you will be able to read them.

  1. Collect or create fortunes. Using glue stick, glue to colored paper. Leave 1/2" between them.
  2. For smaller fortunes, enlarge 250% and print onto Transfer Magic photo transfer paper. For large fortune, create your own message with 36 point type, or enlarge one of the smaller messages to 10" including border.
  3. With craft knife and ruler, cut out fortunes. Leave 1/8" border on smaller fortunes, 1/2" border on large fortune. Arrange on calendar, face down. You can read the fortune through the transfer. This allows you to make sure they are right side up!
  4. Be careful to stay at least 1-1/2" away from the printing on the calendar and make sure not to touch calendar with heat press or iron while transfering images onto calendar.
  5. Transfer images onto calendar according to instructions included with TransferMagic.com calendar.
  6. Unravel edges of fabric strips. Tie chopsticks with one strip. Knot six remaining fabric strips. Glue chopsticks and knots in place, right side of fabric facing up, using fabric glue (refer to photo for position). Leave flat while glue dries.

Reminder:
Transfers made on a color copier must be peeled while hot. Transfers made on an ink jet printer may be peeled while hot (matte finish) or cool (smooth, shiny finish). For ink jet, burnish the back of the transfer with a soft cloth before peeling.
